Measure your PD

We’re going to use super savvy, cutting-edge tech to measure the distance between your pupils. For the best results, make sure you’re in a well-lit room (avoid bright backlights) and have a strong Wi-Fi connection. Grab a standard-size, light-colored card with a magnetic strip, turn on audio, and you’re ready to go!

PD stands for pupillary distance—the space between the centers of your pupils. An accurate PD makes sure your prescription lenses are aligned just right. If your PD is off, it can lead to symptoms like blurry vision, dizziness, nausea, or headaches.

Pretty dang accurate. In testing, 95% of scans were within ±1mm, and 100% were within ±2mm. For context, the medical standard for PD accuracy is ±2.5mm—so you’re well within the safe zone.

Nope! Your PD Reader results are ready instantly and don’t need to be double-checked with an eye care provider.

Depends on where you are. In the U.S., our PD Reader is FDA-listed as a non-medical device. But in places like the EU, UK, Canada, and Australia, it’s officially registered as a Class I Medical Device. Now that’s a fun little fact to casually drop at your next party. 

On desktop, use Safari, Chrome, or Firefox. For mobile, use Safari for an iPhone and Chrome for an Android.

A standard-size card gives the tool a reference for scale so it can measure your pupillary distance accurately. There’s never a need to use a credit card (please don’t, really). Driver’s license, library card, club card—they all work great.

A couple FYIs: We only access your camera for the duration of the scan, and we are big on security. Our tech also automatically blurs any details on your card so they cannot be recognized. There’s a few things that help our tech work its magic. First, make sure your audio is on to hear some clues on what you might be missing. You’ll want to look straight into the camera and have your eyes clearly visible. (Sorry bangs, but we’re going to have to push you aside.) Place your card with the magnetic strip on the bottom, right above your eyebrows. Hold the card at the top corner so the magnetic strip is clearly visible. Make sure you’re in a well lit environment and that camera is squeaky clean (no finger smudges please). If you’re still having issues, contact us! We can help.
